Writing contests

I just found out about two writing contests:

WCDR Short Fiction Contest: To encourage writers of all genres, the Writer's Circle of Durham Region is sponsoring a short fiction contest its second annual short fiction contest.

All writers 18 years of age and older may enter original, previously unpublished stories of 2,500 word or less on any subject matter with a $10 entry fee by April 30, 2005 either by mail or electronically at http://www.wcdr.org. Guidelines are on the website.

Prizes are $500 for first prize, $300 for second and $200 for third as well as publication.

Looking for love in all the right poems
Award-winning chapbook publisher Leaf Press is looking for love poems with the intention of publishing 20 poems in a chapbook to be released in fall of 2005. Another 20 selected poems will be published as part of a special feature on the Leaf Press website at http://www.leafpress.ca.

First prize: $100. Second prize $75. Third prize $50. Everyone who enters will receive one copy of the chapbook; the poets published in print will receive two chapbooks. Deadline for postmark: July 30, 2005. Entry fee $15.00 for a maximum of 5 poems previously unpublished in chapbook or book form. Blind judging. Enclose cover letter with e-mail address, snail address and phone number. Entries will not be returned. They will announce winners by newsletter and on the website. Maximum poem length for this project is 30 lines including stanza breaks.
