Fear of editing my novel

This year I decided that I won't write a novel in a month, instead I'll make a big push on editing my novel.

Usually, in the weeks running up to November I get more and more excited about the novel I'm about to write. I was hoping I'd be getting psyched up for editing my novel.

But as the date approaches, other novels tempt me. I think about writing a new novel... or re-writing my previous year's novel from scratch.

And the more I think about Mysterious Paris, the less I like it. What happened? Is it just that I'm getting sick of this novel? Or that I can't bring myself to actually finish a project. I've told too many people about this novel, so I feel I should finish editing it. Maybe I've just been away too long and when I get back into working on the novel, I'll like it again. I really hope so.

I have been going through the same thing, but in reverse :) I have a new novel idea I was planning, but lately it seems I am more interested in the old novel. I am very tempted to do the nano-approved cheat and just type 'the end' on last year's unfinished novel then continue it this year as "the sequel." Like you, I sort of feel like why start something new when I should finish what I already have.

... if you decide to write in November, there's always March - NaNoEdMo - to do your edits! Same sort of support thing (assuming, of course, that it's still up and running)...

I tried that, but it didn't help much. One problem could be that the goal is measured in time and not quantity of progress. Another could be that I need an active local support group to help motivate me.

I did get some editing work done on my novel, but not as much as I hoped. I probably did over 50 hours, but spread over months. But still need more work.
