What's different about this shepard's pie?

I wanted to use lots of veggies from my CSA basket, but I wasn't confident in the vegetarian shepard's pie recipe in Finally... Food I Can Eat. Beans on the bottom layer didn't appeal to me. So, I looked at the beef recipe and used beef on the bottom layer.

That's kale and zucchini below the top potato layer. I think I could have used more potatoes, but I wasn't sure how many small potatoes to use. The recipe called for medium potatoes.

This recipe wasn't amazing, but I did use a bunch of veggies. And I had left-overs.

Do you have a favorite ingredient for shepard's pie?

I found that when I was receiving an organic food basket that my cooking really changed because now I was cooking to the ingredients I received rather than planning what I was going to cook then picking up the ingredients I needed. I also found a weekly basket was just too much. Switched to bi-weekly and it was still too much.

Shepherd's Pie ingredients? Ground beef base (with some onion soup mix mixed in) with corn and carrot chunks (not big on the green beans, unless they're fresh, not frozen) and a mashed potato topping. :)

My routine is to pick up the CSA basket on Saturday, plan the meals around the basket, then go grocery shopping. I try to cook one or two dishes on Sunday that will give me plenty of left-overs.
