from one cookbook to another

Vegetarian Quick & Easy delivered everything I hoped (but didn't get) from 1,000 Classic Recipes. It has lots of great recipes from around the globe, and colorful pictures of food and people. The index quite reasonably lists recipes under their main ingredients. And because the recipes are quick to prepare, I can see turning to this book frequently.

The last recipe I cooked from this book was stir-fried vegetables with tofu. Marinating the cubed tofu in a mix of soy sauce, lemon juice, cumin, and ginger gave it so much flavor.

Next, I'll be cooking from 20 Minutes to Dinner: quick, low-fat, low-calorie, vegetarian meals. Does the title seem unappealing to you? The many tofu-based recipes are a turn-off for me. I considered briefly getting rid of this book without cooking anything. But recipe draws me: a vegetarian version of caldo verde, the Portuguese kale and potato soup that I love. I'm getting rid of the Portuguese cookbook, and I didn't see the recipe in some of my other cookbooks. But I never thought to check my vegetarian books as the traditional recipe calls for sausage.

The first five recipes that I'll try from this book are:

* Vegetarian caldo verde
* Food processor gazpacho with black beans
* Thai-style noodle stir-fry
* Grilled "steak-style" mushrooms with Korean barbecue sauce
