explosion in the bread machine

In a fit of stupidity, I substituted milk for powdered milk in the Canadian Bread Machine Baking recipe for Rice Loaf.... but I didn't think about the fact that I was substituting a liquid for a solid! Fortunately, during shortly after the bread starting kneading (or sloshing, in this case), I was back in the kitchen. I dumped in rice flour until it stopped sloshing so much and hoped for the best.

I didn't know what was going to come out in the end, but it seems to be bread. It just looks like it's trying to explode out of the crust. :-) And I had a really big mess to clean up in the machine from all that liquid that sloshed and spilled, then baked.

I haven't tasted the bread yet, but I'm no longer as nervous about baking bread. I always read that the measurements are really precise, but here I had extra liquid and random extra amount of flour, and the texture seems right. I'm almost worried that I'll like the bread a lot, because I don't think I'd be able to replicate it. Hopefully, following the recipe with a proper substitution would work.

In other news, to go with the left-over pot roast, I cooked pasta, which I topped with the sauce (as suggested in the recipe). Great side dish! And the pot roast sauce is a lovely flavorful yet light dressing for the pasta.

I will, thank you :). It was pretty simple, looked impressive, and tasted so good!
