Although it didn't taste completely authentic, this is a great soup! The flavours have so much depth: potato-onion puree with shredded collard greens and slices of chourico (spicy sausage). It's also really filling! I've never felt so full from soup and a sandwich before.

Today I picked up some fish for that battered fish recipe - nice thick fillets of cod.

I also chose the remaining recipes to cook from Portuguese Home Coooking:
* Lombo de vaca - Spicy beef tenderloin
* Feijao verde guisado com tomate - Green beans stewed in tomatoes
* Cove a mineiro - Sauteed greens and oranges
* Milho saborosa - Flavored corn
* Batatas no forno com tomate - Roasted seasoned potatoes

BTW, I'm considering temporarily renaming this blog to "Cookbook Journey" while I cook my way through my cookbooks. What do you think?

That soup sounds quite tasty, but then again, anything with spicy sausage in it is generally going to catch my attention.

chourico is a spicy Portuguese sausage. I'll be using more of it in the green beans. :-)

Wow, what a great meal :) mmmmmmmm

A rename is fine, and you can always change back once your cooking adventures are done. Nice idea, really.

I don't think I'll have all 5 of those recipes in the same meal... although that would be a good meal.

Ah, I should have been clearer; I was thinking of the soup you'd made and imagining it with a nice, thick, crusty bread.

It's fun, seeing your adventures and plans, you know? :). I never really was (am) much of a cook, but it's great seeing you having fun with it all.

What has been some of the comments your forays into new recipes brought, or I guess, which meal so far has gone over the best?

I've had a lot of positive comments, but I think the dish I started with (Brazilian Chicken with Bananas) went over the best.
