Finished the manga cookbook

I finished the manga cookbook with chicken eggs! Yes, the food pictured in my icon. (If you don't see the icon, click to view my posting on LiveJournal.) I love it, because it looks so cute. And their recipe for boiling eggs is actually pretty awesome. They have a different technique which helps keep the eggs moist and tender, while cooking them through.

Yep, the manga cookbook is a keeper. :-)

I'll be posting a bit today, as I'm seriously behind on these cooking posts.

Lots of Japanese food (and a picture)

Oh no.... I'm almost finished with Taste of Japan, and I didn't even list all ten recipes! I didn't realize how long it's been since I last posted.

* French beans with sesame seeds - This cold salad is unusual, but not to everyone's taste. It might be the reason I don't keep this book.

* Chicken and egg with rice (oyaka-don) - I could eat this every day! Here's a picture of how it turned out.

The next five recipes are:

* Sukiyaki
* Green and yellow layered cakes
* Teriyaki trout - requires marinating for hours, but I did this the night before, and then dinner was super-quick and tasted great!
* Simmered beef with potatoes - this takes a long time to prepare, but is comforting on a cold day

I ended up getting rid of two books on my shelf without preparing anything, because I didn't feel like preparing more than a few recipes from either.
