New revision plans

My personal goal (not new) has been to complete revisions of Mysterious Paris by the end of September. With my current pace (not spending enough time on revision) and plan (multiple passes through the novel, each for different issues), that deadline might as well be next week: it won't happen.

My new plan is to spend more time on the novel, and also to try Holly Lisle's One-Pass Revision method. Although I'll probably do a second quick pass for spelling and grammar.

Current wordcount

I made the massive file, ready for printing my manuscript (for revision). Made it easy to check my wordcount. Using MS Word, it's 50,700 words. Which isn't bad, considering my first draft was about that length, then I chopped 25% and wrote new scenes.

Using publication-type counting, it's about 56,000 words. Probably more, as I don't know where most of the chapters fall, so I didn't make many chapter breaks. Getting a little closer to where it needs to be.

But I'm pretty sure the revision will show that I need to add far more than I cut. For example, I'm going to have to make up a lot more Jardin mystery mini-scenes to start the chapters. And I know of at least 2 scenes I need to add. And throughout, I need to increase description.

Too bad my printer is so old and slow.... I think it will take 10 hours to print the whole novel.
