Within acceptable range, and the number will change with revisions. I tend to write my first draft lean (bare bones action and dialogue, with description only where plot-critical). I expect that between adding atmosphere and removing logistical over-writing that this story will end up about 4000 words. (By logistical over-writing, I mean that when I figure out exactly what has to be physically done to accomplish something, and then write all the stupid boring details.)
Completed draft is currently en route to my critique partners. Tomorrow I start revisions. Thursday (with perfect timing) I attend a writing seminar at the library by Edo van Belkom on writing short stories. Hope I can get this lump polished before the submission deadline for the big honkin' SF cliche issue.
I really should get a paid LJ account, so I could add a Blonde Bimbo icon. But maybe not.... No time to diddle with icons on this deadline. Yowsa!
