Cooking shepherd's pie for real

Did you know that shepherd's pie is made with lamb, and the version made with beef is cottage pie?  I only learned the difference recently. And now, for the first time, I prepared shepherd's pie. Although it was hard to find ground lamb.


Next time, however, I'll use a larger pot. As you can see, this pot was completely full. As a result, bubbling liquid overflowed, leaving a big mess to clean in the oven.

 

This dish was delicious! The "mustard thatch" contained only a slight amount of mustard, lightly favoring the mashed potatoes. Celery and carrots were a pleasant replacement to the usual peas.
