Thanks to thespian for pointing this out.

Like many people, I've been feeling depressed over Katrina. Today maybe I made a small dent in helping people reconnect. I entered data on a dozen or so names from one of the many people-finding lists into a Katrina People Finder database at this site.

If you have a few minutes or an hour you can help, too!

Thanks for posting - it wouldn't let me get into the site, but it's good to have ways to help.

Here's another that I've found - this is a church/school that's volunteered space to store donated supplies. They said on a website coordinating relief efforts that I looked at - http://www.showandsport.com/disaster_relief.htm - that they especially wanted letters and cards to encourage people, and that the refugees were really appreciating them.

Here's the address:

Our Lady of Fatima School

Lafayette, LA 70503

Right now I visited and they are saying "register for the next round". That's because they're currently caught up on all the data entry. When new entries on the lists (or new lists) are prepared for data entry, then you can help out.

It's amazing how quick they're getting through data entry. Between when I posted and when the current round ended, about 50,000 list entries were keyed in (which is many more database/name entries, as many list entries have multiple names).

Update on Katrina Peole Finder project
They need volunteers again to:
Enter people missing/found into the database.
Enter shelter information into a Shelter Finder database.
